Clary Sage

Benefits of Clary Sage

Clary Sage has become popular as a food and beverage flavoring and scent in the perfume industry in most recent years.

Clary Sage, however, is known to have aromatherapy and medicinal benefits as well. It receives its Latin name, "Clarus," meaning clarifying or cleansing.

When used in Aromatherapy applications, Clary Sage is known to be:

  • sedative

  • produce feelings of relaxation and calm

  • reduce dizziness, anxiety, and irritability

  • stimulate libido

It can ease stress when diffused and has contributed to a more profound sense of concentration and aid in meditation by heightening awareness and focusing the mind.

Topically, Clary Sage offers a cooling sensation to soothe inflamed skin. It also may relieve rashes, balance the production of natural oil and sebum, and strengthen skin and muscles.

Clinically, Clary Sage essential oil is reported to eliminate or prevent the spread of some types of harmful bacteria, facilitate wound healing, and reduce muscle and joint aches and pain. It may also be beneficial for strains and sprains. It is an ingredient often found in dry brush serums as it is known to enhance circulation. Clary Sage has also been reported to stimulate and regulate the menstrual cycle.

Recipe for topical wounds and aches and pains:

Use 6 drops of Clary Sage Oil and dilute in 30 ml (1 oz.) of Coconut Carrier Oil or another lightweight carrier oil. For wounds, apply this blend onto the affected area. For larger areas, spread mix across the skin and use in an aromatherapy massage.

Calming Diffuser recipe

A few drops of Clary Sage placed in a diffuser can ease stress. To create a custom stress-relieving blend, combine 3 drops of clary sage with 2 drops each of orange, Ginger, and Bergamot essential oils.
